IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Arts Education Coordinator
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instructors (Teaching Artists) work in a classroom, studio, or hands-on/lab-type setting.
- Must be comfortable leading a group of young people in subject matter pertaining to theatre arts (acting, movement/dance, costumes, stagecraft, theatrical design), as well as structuring a curriculum (of varying lengths) to fill classroom time in an engaging, creative, and fun way.
- Teaching artists will determine appropriate learning objectives in conjunction with guidance from CCT, and create their own lesson plans based on existing CCT curriculum and State/National Standards. Ideal candidates will have experience in teaching as well as within their subject area, and must be able to work with multiple age groups.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading classes in basic theatre curriculum in fun and engaging ways
- Lesson planning
- Utilizing strong and confident classroom management skills
- A love for the arts and working with young people
- The ability to differentiate instruction for a variety of ability/skill levels and experience
- Working cooperatively with other instructors
- Communicating with students, parents/caregivers, and colleagues
- Advising students individually on independent projects on articulating and accomplishing learning goals
- Maintaining a positive and nurturing classroom environment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Progress toward or existing Bachelor’s degree or certification in early childhood education, education, fine arts, or performing arts
- Professional experience working with children at the elementary and/or secondary school level
- Passion for arts education
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to think creatively
- Strong problem-solving skills
