The Library Outreach Coordinator position works 40 hours per week and must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to include evenings and weekends. The Library Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing Outreach collaborations and relationships that promote library service, customer relations, and relevant programs for all Forsyth County residents (to include adults in transition, adult group homes, elderly and disabled adults or groups, young adults commonly referred to as teens, intergenerational or family groups and children's audiences). The Library Outreach Coordinator is responsible for operating county vehicles while providing Outreach services to various locations throughout Forsyth County.
Duties include:
- Circulating materials to library customers from the mobile library or bookmobiles and further management of designated collections.
- Program planning and facilitation of relevant library programs and services for all ages.
- Materials processing, displays, marketing the collection, processing library cards, and various clerical duties related to the Outreach Division.
- Completing 60-65% of work in programming and promoting library services while in the community.
- Performing physical tasks such as bending, stretching, squatting, pushing book trucks weighing up to 50 pounds, and lifting bins weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Observing and reporting maintenance needs of the bookmobiles and county vehicles to the Outreach Services and Bookmobile Supervisor.
- Maintaining all work and collaborative spaces.
- Engaging in considerable public contact requiring tact and courtesy with a goal of excellent customer service.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Outreach, Diversity and Inclusion Manager and is evaluated through regularly scheduled meetings and evaluation periods for the overall effectiveness of library services provided.
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or GED and two years of library experience. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Thorough knowledge of the book collection, reference books, and other materials in the library.
- Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the library system.
- Knowledge of library information and resources.
- Highly familiar with community engagement.
- Ability to relate to a wide range of children and older adults.
- Ability to plan and present library programs effectively.
- Ability to promote interest in library services.
- Ability to supervise a small work group.
- Ability to communicate with others tactfully and courteously.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Physical Demands: Lifting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
Additional Duties:
- Schedule, plan, facilitate, and assess library programming through the community and at outreach sites.
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing agencies and organizations receiving outreach services.
- Operating large vehicles like a bookmobile.
- Prepare bookmobile for site visits.
- Process material handling, check-ins/outs, holds, and assess library applications and issue library cards.
- Answer questions and promote library services, reference, and reader's advisory requests.
- Provide branch support for public service desk.
- Assess and weed assigned library selection.
- Route service requests/needs to appropriate contacts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
