Summary:
Abrams is looking for an innovative and technically savvy Designer to join our fun, creative, and collaborative Marketing Department! This role is a unique opportunity to design both print and digital marketing assets across our bestselling and award-winning Adult and Children’s publishing lists, as well as materials for corporate branding, festivals, and conventions.
The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge and experience across all areas of marketing design; be a self-starter, unafraid to jump in and take initiative; thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment; be energized by the opportunity to develop competitive marketing designs and maintain the look of existing branded campaigns; exhibit excellent communications skills; and be engaged with the opportunity to learn about the analytics of campaigns to improve conversion through design elements.
This position reports to the Associate Creative Director, Marketing Design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Concept and execute designs for branded marketing and publicity campaigns to support the release of key titles across all areas of the consumer experience, including retail promotions (digital and brick-and-mortar), floor displays, merchandising and promotional materials (paper and premium), print and digital advertising, large-format banners, billboards and standees, social media assets, animated GIFs, book tour materials, etc.
- Lead the visual creative process for assigned campaigns from brief submission through routing, release, prototyping and proofing, working closely with the Marketing and Publicity teams and maintaining branded-visual consistency across all campaign assets; liaise with book design to gather assets; brainstorm with Marketing and Publicity team members as needed to define the scope of elements.
- Manage Creative Services Design Project Schedule for assigned projects, proactively tracking on-time release in collaboration with Marketing and Publicity team members; manage file organization, back-ups, and archiving within marketing design servers for assigned projects
- Share current best-practices and trends in design, actively suggesting ways to incorporate these learnings into campaigns
Qualifications
- 3-5 years marketing design/creative services experience, publishing preferred
- Familiarity with current competitive publishing landscape a plus
- Imaginative and innovative thinker who is excited by pushing the creative envelope and experimenting with new techniques or technologies
- Proactive, solution-oriented, highly motivated individual who can work well independently yet flourishes in a collaborative team environment
- Efficient project manager and nimble multi-tasker who is comfortable shifting course and pivoting as needed
- Exemplary attention to detail, especially when working quickly under tight deadlines
- Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite on a Mac platform, especially Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
- Proficiency in print and digital file preparation, technical standards, color correction and retouching imagery, and visual best practices including layouts and typography; knowledge of the Pantone Color System and color optimization of files
- Able to create custom die-lines from scratch / work with vendor-provided die-lines for a variety of promotional items, including corrugated materials and premium items
- Experience creating After Effects animations a plus
- Skilled in large-format art clean up in preparation for corrugated floor displays, vehicle wraps and billboards/banners; Ability to augment and supplement vector artwork as needed a plus
