    Job Description

    NBC4 and T52, the NBC and Telemundo owned stations in Los Angeles, are looking for a duopoly Managing Editor to oversee editorial content across both stations. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully merge editorial operations for NBC4 & T52 while simultaneously executing the strategic visions of two unique brands. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader focused on breaking and enterprise storytelling while fostering team collaboration.  

    The duopoly Managing Editor will lead a team of experienced journalists in daily news gathering, breaking news coverage and editorial decision making. This candidate should have extensive experience in optimizing news gathering operations and optimizing workflows. A proven track record of exceptional news judgment is required to be successful in this duopoly role. 

    This position reports directly to both the VP of News for NBC4 & T52.  

    Essential Responsibilities: 

    • Responsible for leading daily editorial meetings for both NBC4 & T52  
    • Provide editorial direction to staff including reporters, photographers, assignment editors and producers  
    • Approve reporter scripts with an emphasis on enforcing factual integrity and adhering to NBC4 & T52 standards and guidelines  
    • Review scripts for facts and up-to-date information in addition to reviewing scripts for grammar and style  
    • Guide, lead and manage the station’s coverage of breaking news and big story coverage  
    • Work with the digital team to maximize news coverage on all digital platforms 
    • Participate in the performance appraisal process in conjunction with the VPs of News 
    • Perform other duties as assigned including scheduling
    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field 
    • Minimum 10 years of newsroom experience 
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in news management role (News Director, Assistant News Director, Executive Producer, Managing Editor or Assignment Manager) in a top 20 market newsroom  
    • Bilingual in Spanish & English 
    • Field producing experience a plus  
    • Experience supervising, training, coaching and motivating a team 
    • Proficiency in working with the latest newsroom technologies (both hardware and software) 
    • Ability to help set and communicate newsroom policies 
    • Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels 
    • A pioneering spirit with desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future 
    • Must be a fierce competitor

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Basic understanding of the NBC4 and T52 Los Angeles news brands 
    • Demonstrated ability to lead successful teams  
    • Excellent communication skills 

    Additional Requirements:

    Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

    Salary Range: $135,000 to $185,000 (Bonus and Long-Term Incentive eligible)
