Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Maintenance Assistant position for the Library Facilities and Maintenance at Oregon State University (OSU).

We are seeking a student worker to join the Valley Library's Admin department to help maintain the building and library spaces to create a safe, inviting, and inclusive environment.

Position Duties

In this position, you will:
  • Frequently work independently without direct supervision.
  • Assist with responding to building maintenance requests sent to a shared email folder
  • Complete routine maintenance tasks such as moving furniture, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Create, update and maintain documentation.
  • Program electronic locks
  • Assist with reconfiguration of staff work spaces.
  • Maintain and update inventories as needed.

As skills develop over time, additional responsibilities may include:
  • Ordering maintenance supplies and maintaining stock levels.
  • Make minor repairs to furniture
  • Respond to maintenance requests independently, determine next steps, and communicate with library staff.
  • Assist with management and maintenance of the standing art collection.
  • Opportunities to cross-train in other departments


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently and initiative to start new projects with limited supervision.
  • Ability to apply creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, One Drive) and Google Suite.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.


Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Experience with basic hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrated experience working with deadlines and prioritizing tasks.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity


Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Anticipated starting pay: $15.25/hour

Working conditions:
  • Indoor, heaving lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Working in dusty and dirty conditions occasionally.

Work Schedule: 10-15 Hours/Week. Expected schedule will be between the hours of M-F, 8-5
