The City of Anaheim Public Library seeks several enthusiastic and dynamic Part Time Library Pages to provide accurate and thorough service in a team-oriented library system. The Part Time Library Page is an entry-level support position assigned to various sections of the Library (i.e. circulation or technical services/collection support). Under direct supervision, the Part Time Library Page performs a variety of manual and clerical tasks related to library materials processing, sorting, shelving, and retrieving; unpacks and checks in library material; participates in the preparation and organization of shipments and deliveries; provides meeting room support such as positioning chairs and tables for room set-up and take-down; and performs related work as required. Prior library experience is highly desired. This is a part time position, typically assigned 15-20 hours per week with no minimum number of hours guaranteed. Scheduled hours will include Saturdays and/or Sundays and evening shifts.

There are eleven Library outlets serving the City of Anaheim and surrounding communities. This includes a Central Library, six branch libraries, a mobile library, a mobile STEAM van, the self-service branch at ARTIC Transportation Center, and the Anaheim Heritage Center which houses our local history collections.

The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

  1. Performs sorting and shelving of library materials such as books, audio-visual media, newspapers, magazines, and other material.
  2. Retrieves library materials from shelves and book trucks.
  3. Sorts and prepares library materials for shelving.
  4. Arranges and maintains a variety of library material in order on shelves.
  5. Searches for, sorts, and prepares library materials for daily delivery.
  6. Unpacks library shipments of materials and supplies; verifies contents against a packing list.
  7. Checks in library materials.
  8. Processes and prepares new library materials for circulation and public use.
  9. Organizes and prepares outgoing delivery and patron request items.
  10. Uses computer equipment to retrieve item records and print barcodes and call number labels.
  11. Searches for and retrieves library materials for staff and patron use.
  12. Shelf reads to ensure that library materials are shelved correctly.
  13. Answers the delivery intercom and phone; signs for library deliveries.
  14. Packs and empties book bins; unloads book drops.
  15. Clears library tables and bookshelves of unused or mis-shelved books and other library materials.
  16. Prepares conference rooms for meetings, library programs, and community gatherings.
  17. Performs a variety of clerical and office support tasks.
  18. Provides directional assistance to patrons upon request.
  19. Sorts and tallies library card applications.
  20. Accepts and sorts donated materials from the public.

Candidates must possess any combination of experience and knowledge to demonstrate basic library operating principles.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Environmental Conditions: Employees primarily work in an office/library environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances.

Physical Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and library setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This classification primarily works indoors and requires frequent standing and walking between work areas.
