The Honolulu Fire Department is looking for a Radio Technician III to plan, design, install, modify, and maintain the operations of the Radio Shop and related radio-activated systems for the department as well as other participating City agencies.
As a Radio Technician III, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising the installations and tests of base station transmitters, receivers, antenna systems, and emergency electrical power generating equipment.
- Scheduling preventive maintenance of system equipment.
- Developing test procedures and techniques for system maintenance.
- Determining necessary Radio Shop equipment, test instruments, parts and accessories, hardware, and furnishings for proper operation.
- Maintaining records of equipment dispositions, parts, and accessories usage for inventory purposes.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.
Special Work Requirements: May work in close proximity to high voltage radio circuits and commercial and/or emergency AC power circuits at remote radio sites. May be required to drive on mountain roads under adverse conditions to reach remote radio sites. Mobile radio installations require working with automotive electrical systems. May operate departmental forklifts. May be subject to standby rotation and call-outs in case of emergency. May be subject to work overtime after normal hours, weekends, and holidays. This position will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of a two-year program in electronics technology from a regionally-accredited community college or technical school.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five (5) years of technical work experience involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of radio communications or related equipment.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.

FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT: This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
