The Telegraph is looking for an excellent visuals all-rounder to join the expanding overnight team.

Reporting to the California-based Overnight Editor, we need an Overnight Visuals Editor to ensure pictures, video and graphics are at the forefront of our journalism 24/7.

This exciting new role will liaise with the London picture, video and visuals desks, but will work shifts to accommodate the desired time-zone coverage, including weekend shifts on a rota basis. The successful candidate will be based on the West Coast of the US.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating visual assets for stories in an innovative and highly creative manner.
  • These will include maps, illustrations, graphics and composite images as well as pictures and video.
  • Identifying the best visuals for publication and take a proactive approach to ensure they are published and promoted across our platforms.
  • Initiating ideas for visual story production.
  • Monitoring the internal and external visual sources ensuring The Telegraph is maximising its publication opportunities (picture tasting and social/competitor tasting for images, videos and other visuals).
  • Captioning published visuals concisely and correctly, ensuring factual information and accuracy.
  • Reacting quickly to breaking news, sourcing relevant visual content or working with our partners to do so.
  • Extensive experience of photo editing, building photo packages, and a good eye for composition.
  • Strong interest and knowledge of current affairs, sport and entertainment.
  • Content management systems experience necessary and Photoshop skills.
  • Have a strong graphic design/illustration aesthetic and know your way around the full Adobe suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign plus Figma).
  • Have an open-minded and receptive approach to innovating and iterating your designs.
  • A keen eye on current design trends and an understanding of motion graphics.
  • Knowledge of media law.
  • Ability to produce long-form video for projects.
  • A strong worldwide contact book to help bring in exclusives.
  • Writing experience for legally sound, engaging captions.
