GENERAL FUNCTION:

  1. Apply engineering principles, DoD and Air Force processes to improve the performance and sustainability of current and future weapon systems.
  2. Ensure compliance with MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria for aircraft systems and subsystems.
  3. Support System Integrity Programs (MECSIP), maintain the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list, and monitor airworthiness certification for mission partner aircraft.
  4. Execute Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 62-6 and associated Airworthiness Bulletins and AFIs to manage flight authorizations and airworthiness processes.
  5. Assist in translating operational requirements into system design objectives, and support technology needs by developing action plans and policies for manufacturing, operations, and de-militarization of weapon systems.
  6. Support the system safety engineering program, conducting mishap risk assessments and evaluating contractor safety proposals.
  7. Assist with the resolution of high-priority safety issues, ensuring systems are safe to operate and maintain.
  8. Maintain hazard tracking logs and assist with safety risk acceptance and mishap investigations.
  9. Support the development of key program documents, including System Engineering Plans (SEP), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP), Program Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Evaluations (PESHE), and other technical evaluations or acquisition strategies.
  10. Participate in design reviews, interface control meetings, and system safety working group meetings to address and resolve safety and operational concerns.
  11. Assist in ensuring compliance with OSS&E (Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness) throughout the system lifecycle.
  12. Assist with deviations, waivers, and Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings to ensure aircraft systems and subsystems meet safety standards.
  13. Review and evaluate recommendations related to system safety, airworthiness, and weapon system integrity, including ECPs, CCPs, and modification proposals.
  14. Assist with evaluating safety non-compliance issues and airworthiness documentation to ensure full compliance with USAF standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:

  1. MA Degree and at least 10 years of experience in the related field, 5 of which must be with the DoD, OR, BA Degree and at least 12 years of experience related to the position requirements, 5 of which must be with the DoD, OR, 15 years of directly related experience, 8 of which must be with the DoD.
  2. Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret Level.
  3. Must be able to perform functional duties independently.
  4. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook).
  5. Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
