Publishing and Editorial Position:
Editorial Director We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Editorial Director to lead the Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers editorial team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the publishing landscape, a passion for storytelling, a track record of curating successful literary works, and a desire to foster a love for reading among children of all ages. What you'll do: Provide visionary leadership to the FSG BYR editorial team, spearheading innovative strategies to strengthen and define the imprint brand. Oversee the acquisition, development, and publication of a diverse range of books across categories that will resonate with readers of all ages and meet market demands. Creatively review the backlist; identify and develop new formats for existing brands and franchises. Cultivate and maintain relationships with authors, illustrators, agents, and other publishing professionals to ensure the continued growth and success of our publishing list. Represent the imprint at conferences and trade shows, supporting our creators and identifying new talent. Collaborate closely with internal departments—design, marketing, publicity, sales, and production—to optimize the success of both frontlist and backlist titles. Guide all editorial team acquisitions with a goal to grow market share, ensure a balanced list, and foster the development of our author and illustrator’s careers. Stay informed about industry trends and emerging genres in children's publishing. Oversee preparation of title catalog copy, launch presentations, and sales materials. Understand and be accountable for the financial goals of the imprint with an eye towards growth. What You'll Bring: 10+ years of professional publishing experience with a significant portion in a leadership role. Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a creative team. Established relationships with literary agents, authors, illustrators, and industry leaders. Strong negotiation skills and a thorough understanding of publishing contracts. Deep knowledge of the market, including competing and comparison titles. Proven ability to lead effectively and foster communication across the organization and with external partners. Strong editorial acumen with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in current publishing tools and platforms. Passionate about children’s literature and storytelling. This position will have an annual salary of $130,000-$180,000.
