Your role in helping us shape the future:
U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. We are seeking a sharp consumer banking analyst and reporter to empower consumers with the knowledge needed to make the best banking-related decisions.
The Consumer Banking Analyst and Reporter is responsible for writing insightful, actionable articles about banking, such as how to find the best savings account, the difference between APY and interest rate, how to switch banks, and ways to protect yourself from banking scams. You will also review banking articles and guides to ensure accuracy and demonstrate expertise to readers.
With the new presidential administration, there will likely be changes across the banking industry. You will translate and interpret policy decisions and explain what those decisions mean for consumers.
In addition, the consumer banking analyst and reporter will work with our PR team to make television, radio and web appearances to promote and be the face of our banking guides and advice content. There could be opportunities for video and podcasting as well.
Are you up to the challenge?
- Be a recognized subject matter expert in the banking field, as demonstrated through your writing samples, online profile and media clips.
- Be able to translate difficult or dense banking topics into easy-to-read and actionable articles.
- Have your finger on the pulse of the financial services industry and can bring ideas for columns, surveys and pitches as developments arise.
- Flexible and have no problem handling last-minute or live media interviews.
- Excited about helping to guide our banking advice content strategy.
This position involves working closely with an enthusiastic, highly collaborative team of editors, social media experts, and PR and communications professionals in a fast-paced digital environment.
Position Requirements
You should definitely have:
- Five years to eight years of similar or related journalism experience, with a background in the banking space.
- A strong knowledge of the banking industry and established relationships with banking experts.
- Strong writing skills.
- Previous experience with live media appearances and interviews.
- Strong relationships with reporters in the personal finance/consumer advice space.
- A solid understanding of SEO concepts and best practices.
- An established presence on social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok.
- The ability to multitask and work on tight deadlines in a fast-paced, digital environment.
- A willingness to travel for media and speaking opportunities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Journalism or related degree or equivalent experience.
It would be nice if you had:
- Experience conceiving and writing survey questions.
- Expertise in other personal finance areas, like consumer lending, savings and debt.
- Experience working in a content management system.
- Experience using Google Docs and Sheets.
- Familiarity with SEMRush.
- Experience with traffic analytics tools like Google Analytics.

- The anticipated base salary for this position is $75,000 to $100,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
