ASCO is in search of a talented and highly-motivated Managing Editor to produce and edit content, manage projects and processes within the Publishing Department's product portfolio, and have an integral role collaborating with physician editors.

Responsibilities Serve as the Managing Editor of
ASCO Daily News,
leading editorial production; creating print issue schedules; coordinating and collaborating with internal stakeholders and physician editors on content; reviewing, editing, and signing off on content; creating and distributing article assignments to freelance reporters; and providing timely, accurate, and thorough follow-up to written and oral communications. Manage content development, editorial workflows, and print issue planning and production for ASCO Daily News coverage of ASCO meetings. Support the ASCO Daily News suite of digital products, optimizing social media, enhancing reader engagement, and approving email lineups. Mentor and manage ASCO Daily News freelance writers and editors, providing comprehensive training and feedback to ensure high-quality submissions. Provide operational and editorial support for the virtual GI, GU, and/or Annual Meeting newsrooms, maintaining the workflow for on-time publication of meeting coverage in print and digital channels. Maintain and approve contracts for ASCO Daily News vendors. Ability to work occasional evenings and approximately 3-4 weekends per year
Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in communications, English, journalism, or related field; or equivalent years of experience 6+ years of experience as an editor, including technical editing experience Knowledge of academic/scientific writing, publishing, journals, websites Experience and in-depth knowledge of computer software and demonstrated proficiency with Office 360 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Understanding of content management and workflows
Preferred Education and Experience 5 years of significant experience in medical or scientific editing Master's degree in communications, English, journalism, or related field Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ability to creatively solve problems, and strong content development and project management skills Experience with content management or workflow systems
Competencies Excellent time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, prioritize, and multi-task Excellent organization skills with meticulous attention to detail Excellent communication skills, including written, with the ability to clearly communicate and convey, receive, and understand information Excellent editing, proofreading, grammatical, and punctuation skills Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in teams Strong project management skills
ADA/Physical Requirements Fast-paced office environment with extended periods seated or standing at a desk. High use of computer and other office technology equipment.
Travel 10-12 days per year.
