About the Role
ASI is seeking an experienced Technical Communicator to guide users of all backgrounds through the operation of complex unmanned vehicle systems. This role primarily involves software documentation but may also include physical installation and repair instructions.
Let's be clear: We're not writing manuals for toaster ovens. We're writing manuals for robotic vehicles of all shapes and sizes, from small security bots to 400-ton trucks.
This is a fast-paced, exciting, and cutting-edge role. Success requires proactiveness, self-motivation, and sharp critical thinking. You must be a writer, listener, and diplomat, collaborating with multiple teams to produce high-quality documentation that is both technical and accessible.
Job Duties
Content Development & Documentation Meet with Product Managers to determine documentation needs for projects. Research how products will be used to create relevant and user-friendly documentation. Take digital photos or screenshots and prepare illustrations for technical documentation. Write clear, concise, and accurate user manuals, engineering documents, reports, and legal/certification documents. Ensure documentation is organized and accessible, allowing users to find information efficiently. Improve documents through comprehensive editing for grammar, clarity, and structure. Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with engineers, testers, and support personnel to gain in-depth knowledge of ASI's systems. Convert complex or difficult procedures into easy-to-understand instructions. Help define and improve documentation processes to ensure accuracy and accessibility. Regularly update content to reflect new software features and system improvements. Software & Tools
Format and refine Word documents, ensuring consistency and readability. Learn new software and pick up technical skills quickly and independently. Utilize ASI's development tools and systems to enhance documentation quality. Travel & Field Work
Occasional travel (5-10%) may be required for hands-on interaction with ASI products and teams. Requirements
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, or a related field. 3-5 years of professional experience in technical writing. Excellent knowledge of English grammar and usage. Strong ability to convert technical concepts into accessible content. Experience working with engineering teams and software developers. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and evolving environment. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Benefits
