WHO ARE WE The Texas Department of Agriculture's key objectives are to promote production agriculture, consumer protection, economic development and healthy living.

WHAT YOU'LL DO The Web Administrator will perform advanced web design and development work for the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). This position will perform web environment design, deployment, development, and maintenance activities. Work involves maintaining all existing TDA web sites, maintaining, developing new TDA website(s) and working with web content managers to keep information current on the existing sites. This position will work under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Analyze the layout of Internet or intranet pages for efficiency and effectiveness.

Design, develop and implement specialized programs or routines to supplement and enhance web-based applications software using HTML, HTML5, Java/JSP and ASP.NET/C#.

Maintain the day-to-day operation and administration of websites. Find and implement improvements to the organization and layout of existing sites.

Interact with System and Database Administrators to identify and correct problems with web sites and web applications related to IIS and Microsoft SQL.

Maintain and Enhance TDA's web Content Management Application using HTML, Java, JSP and Dot Net Nuke (DNN) Content Management System.

Create new websites and web taxonomies using "look and feel" provided by graphics designer, HTML, Java, JSP and Dot Net Nuke Content Management System.

Provide support of web-based application software through diagnosis of problems and implementation of changes to resolve problems and maintain software at the most current level.

Develop and provide web hits and other statistical reports to requestors. Analyze the reports to help determine improvements in site layout.

Ensure all sites meet state/federal requirements including all Department of Information Resources rules and Section 508 web accessibility standards. Implement website security measures for Internet and intranet security, such as firewalls or message encryption.

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (one year of work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for one year of college).

Minimum five (5)

years of work experience with web sites and web-based applications.

Work experience in application development.

Experience using Java, JSP, and ASP.NET/C#.

Experience operating computer equipment and modifying programs for computer applications.

Experience using Dot Net Nuke.

PREFER Experience using Oracle and PL/SQL.

Experience using Apache Tomcat or similar webserver server.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems; of techniques used in the design of web applications; and of programming languages.

Skill in computer programming; in the use of computer and applicable software; and in modifying or developing programs for computer applications.

Ability to design web pages; to handle multiple projects; to schedule, test, and install web pages; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to exercise sound judgment and discretion; and to maintain confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer. May require working extended hours, some evenings, and weekends, as needed. May involve travel (up to

5%

of the work period), occasionally overnight.

TELEWORK & WORK HOURS Per TDA Policy, telework is not authorized for this position. This position is 100% in person/in office.
