Position Overview

The company, a trusted leader in health information services, is looking for a Contract Associate Health Editor to join our team! This role will report to the Executive Director of Features and work collaboratively with a fast-paced, virtual content team. The Associate Editor will brainstorm, assign, and edit feature stories for our consumer audience, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm, assign, and edit consumer-facing articles designed to inform, engage, and appeal to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with social media and marketing teams to create and promote engaging content.
  • Work with operations teams to ensure timely publishing of content.
  • Identify fresh, creative angles for stories about various health conditions.
  • Support the Executive Editor on special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in health content editing.
  • Proven ability to assign clearly-defined story ideas to freelancers.
  • Strong editing skills to ensure accuracy, balance, timeliness, and relevance.
  • High reliability with the ability to take direction and work independently.
  • Expertise in translating complex medical jargon into accessible language for a lay audience.
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-focused, with solid proofreading skills.
  • Flexibility and creativity to contribute to a growing and competitive multimedia news team.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Biology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medical knowledge or experience working with health-related content.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and publishing systems.
