Associate Health Editor

6+ month contract with possibility to convert (offering a salary of $80,000)

Position Overview:

Our client is looking for a contract Associate Health Editor who will report directly to the Executive Director of Features. The role involves collaborating with a team of editors to brainstorm, assign, and edit feature stories targeted at a consumer audience. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of medical topics, strong editing and writing abilities, excellent interviewing skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to meet tight deadlines. The role also requires effective collaboration with a dynamic, fast-paced content team in a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Brainstorm, assign, and edit articles that resonate with a broad or niche consumer audience.
  • Collaborate with the social media and marketing teams to develop compelling content.
  • Work with operations teams to ensure timely publication of content.
  • Discover innovative and creative angles for stories covering a range of health topics.
  • Assist the Executive Editor with special projects as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health content editing.
  • Proven experience assigning clear and well-defined story ideas to freelancers.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage high productivity.
  • Expertise in editing for accuracy, balance, relevance, and timeliness.
  • Highly reliable with the ability to take initiative and follow direction effectively.
  • Creative and adaptable to meet the evolving needs of a multimedia news team in a competitive space.
  • Strong attention to detail, along with excellent proofreading skills.
  • Ability to translate complex medical terminology and academic language for a general audience.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Biology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong medical knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and publishing systems
