About The Brand

Nature Portfolio is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community. Nature Health is a new journal from the Nature Portfolio, launching in 2026, which will publish original peer-reviewed research, reviews and opinion in all areas of public, global and population health with the greatest impact on health policy and practice.

The Nature Health team is part of a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Human Behaviour, Nature Mental Health and Nature Communications.

About The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the launch team of Nature Health as an Associate or Senior Editor. The ideal candidate must have a PhD (or equivalent) and preferably postdoctoral experience and should be able to demonstrate a general interest in other areas of health research beyond their own. Editorial experience would be beneficial but is not required; candidates with substantial editorial experience will be considered for Senior Editor.

We welcome candidates with expertise in any area of health research, including public health, global health, epidemiology, infectious diseases, digital health, health AI, genomic medicine, health economics, or the social determinants of health. A broad interest is essential, as the Editor will be part of a small launch team covering all areas of public, global and population health research.

The successful candidate will play an important role in determining the representation of the fields they handle for the journal and will work closely within a small team of editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, management of the peer review process, commissioning and editing of reviews and comment, and writing for the journal. An interest in engaging with topical issues for the health community is essential.

Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science are a prerequisite. The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic communicator, have excellent interpersonal skills and be prepared to liaise with their community of researchers through conference attendance and lab visits, virtually and in person. Willingness to travel is essential.

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor, based in London, and play an important role in setting the journal’s agenda and shaping the scope of this new launch.

Applications should include the following:

  • A cover letter telling us who you are and why you want to work as a full-time journal editor at Nature Health, as well as your salary expectation, notice period and preferred office of employment.
  • A CV detailing your education, relevant employment history, list of published scientific papers, and any other achievements that you feel demonstrate your suitability for the position.
  • A 250-word Research Highlight in the style of Nature Medicine on a peer-reviewed research paper that has caught your attention recently. The paper you highlight should not be from your own (or previous) research group but should be on a topic that you find interesting.
