ABOUT THE ROLE

REFORM is hiring a Senior Manager, Content who will shape our marketing and communications content, manage our publishing calendar, lead our marketing content program, and create digital platform strategies. This person will be instrumental in helping to elevate and amplify REFORM’s presence across digital and social platforms while advancing our organization’s mission of transforming the criminal justice system. This role will be hands-on, working collaboratively with not just the Marketing & Communications team, but also REFORM’s other departments such as Community Engagement and Policy in order to create best-in-class content.

The ideal candidate is a person with a content creation background who is capable of managing multiple projects at the same time. They’ll jump at the opportunity to pitch ideas, lead programs, and direct and manage projects from end to end. REFORM is an agile organization. We operate like a startup. Therefore, everyone is expected to ideate, implement, and deliver results. 

By leveraging innovative digital tools and storytelling, the Senior Manager, Content will play a key role in expanding REFORM’s reach, influence, and impact in the fight for a more just and restorative criminal justice system.

This role is on the Marketing team and reports directly to the VP, Marketing & Communications.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Manage REFORM’s Content Marketing and Digital Presence (60%)

  • Create and manage a content marketing program for our digital channels, social platforms, and in-person programs.
  • Develop and drive a cohesive editorial strategy for REFORM’s social presence, website content, and email communications.
  • Create digital platform strategies that promote brand growth, drive audience engagement, and increase mobilization (10%).
  • Lead our editorial program by creating strategies and operations that help us find, verify, and produce real stories of people who have been impacted by the criminal justice (parole and probation) system.
  • Manage our publishing calendar to ensure we never miss an important moment and we’re always thinking ahead.

Provide Expertise & Leadership (30%)

  • Establish metrics for success and target audience profiles to ensure strategic growth.
  • Use data, insights, and listening to track growth and identify risks/areas for improvement.
  • Build strategically aligned relationships with social partners and influencers and collaborate with them to expand REFORM’s reach and impact.
  • Work with REFORM staff to understand our state-by-state legislative strategies and develop infrastructure and strategies to support our advocacy efforts.
  • Advise REFORM senior staff and principals on their social media presence.
  • Be an educator and work across teams to make REFORM a digital-first organization.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and best practices.

Other duties as assigned (10%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2 years of in-house experience managing social and digital channels at a fast-paced and complex organization
  • Experience managing social and digital for a media, news, or mission-driven organization
  • Direct experience working with social and digital platforms (e.g., Meta, TikTok, X, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of experience managing social and digital channels  at a fast-paced and complex organization.
  • Excellent editorial skills with the ability to identify a good story or take a lot of information and shape it into a story people want to watch, listen, or read.
  • Exceptional understanding of best practices, emerging trends within the current social media landscape, and a history of executing winning strategies.
  • Eager and able to execute and be hands-on, such as being able to write copy, post content, work with video and graphics editors, make plans and presentations, etc. 
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet competing deadlines.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to calmly deliver outstanding work under pressure.
  • Curious and ambitious brand thinker and storyteller.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and detail-obsessed with excellent judgment, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Deep enthusiasm for learning, growing, and finding better ways to do things.
  • Highly proficient with Google Suite, Mac OS, Slack, and social media platforms.
  • Experience creating content for marketing purposes with skills such as video editing and video capture.
  • A passion for and commitment to REFORM’s mission.

WORK DEMANDS

  • Occasional travel to conferences or events, roughly 5% of the time.
  • Ability to post on social media or respond to messages outside of usual business hours, roughly 20% of the time.
  • When filming, this person may need to support carrying tripods or other equipment around, and be in action for long periods of time, which is roughly 5% of the time.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Live within commuting distance of New York City (midtown).
  • Must be able to work in-person, at the office, 5 days a week.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be ~$104,000-$130,000. REFORM offers competitive base salaries based on the 75th percentile of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously.

  • $75.00 monthly cell phone reimbursement
