Historic New England is in search of an innovative and audience-oriented individual to join our team as Content Strategist. This role plans, creates, manages, and optimizes content across platforms to align with organizational goals and effectively engage target audiences. They develop and execute content strategies, for both short term and long-term strategies, that drive traffic, boost engagement, and achieve measurable outcomes such as increased conversions and brand awareness. This role involves analyzing performance metrics using tools like Google Analytics and social media insights to refine strategies for maximum ROI. The strategist collaborates with internal teams, including, design, editorial, Visitor Experience, and technology partners, to ensure consistent messaging and branding across websites, social media, email campaigns, and other channels. They play a vital role in executing breakthrough communications strategies by staying informed about the evolving digital landscape. By leveraging innovative tools and trends, they ensure that content remains impactful, relevant, and aligned with organizational objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create and implement comprehensive content strategies that align with organizational goals and effectively engage target audiences through audience market research.
- Plan, create, and manage diverse content formats across digital platforms, including websites, social media, and email campaigns in conjunction with the design and copywriting teams.
- Work closely with internal teams such as design, editorial, Visitor Experience, and technology partners to develop and execute cohesive marketing campaigns.
- Analyze performance metrics using tools like Google Analytics, Loomly, and other data reporting platforms.
- Leverage creativity and social media expertise to attract new audiences and foster long-term relationships.
- Stay informed about emerging digital trends, tools, and technologies.
- Play a vital role in executing forward-thinking communication strategies that support organizational objectives and audience growth.
- Use innovative solutions to enhance content effectiveness and maintain a competitive edge in the digital space.
- Manage digital communications to ensure they remain impactful, relevant, and aligned with audience needs and preferences.
- Refine strategies and content based on data to maximize return on investment (ROI).
- Foster strong partnerships to ensure alignment of messaging and branding across all platforms.

The Content Strategist is a key collaborator on the Marketing and Membership team. They are most successful when establishing strong relationships with colleagues throughout the organization. They work most closely with other Marketing and Membership team members - most directly with the Graphic Designer and Copywriter, the magazine Creative Director and Editor - as well as with senior management including those at the Vice President level, and internal and external consultants and content providers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Key Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a relevant field (ex. Marketing, Communications, Digital Media) with a minimum two years of digital content marketing management experience, or equivalent combination of skilled credentials.
- Experience with WordPress content management system, major social media platforms, and email marketing platforms with proven ability to strategize and implement high-quality content for these platforms and analyze/report on results.
- Experience with content creation systems, graphic design, photo editing, and video production.
- Experience managing electronic newsletters and web-based communications.
- Experience using Tessitura or other CRM systems to support targeted email outreach, or willingness to learn.
- Experience using performance metrics using tools.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Skilled in maintaining schedules, coordinating tasks, and communicating project status with internal and external teams to ensure strategies are delivered on time and within budget.
- Ability to accept team feedback constructively, react quickly to new information, opinions, and direction, and revise designs when necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to set and balance priorities and resource allocation.
- Valid driver's license and means of transportation.
