Job Description
User Research International is seeking a dynamic and experienced UX Research Lead to oversee a group of independent UX research contractors, ensuring high-quality deliverables, effective project alignment, and the personal and professional development of individuals. This is a unique opportunity to support a scaling team of UX researchers. While the contractors work primarily in silos on their respective projects, the UX Research Lead plays a critical role in fostering a sense of connection, shared purpose, and support across the group.
The ideal candidate has experience in the big tech industry, understands the nuances of cross-functional environments, and excels at coaching researchers working in challenging and dynamic team settings. This role emphasizes people management, quality control, and cultivating a supportive and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and support to a group of independent research contractors through regular one-on-one coaching, mentoring, and alignment with project goals and company values.
- Attend project kickoff calls, coordinating clear expectations, deliverables, and timelines for individual research projects.
- Meeting regularly with clients throughout the engagement to understand their needs and to avoid escalation.
- Implement and maintain high standards for research deliverables through thorough quality control processes.
- Provide actionable feedback and resources to support continuous improvement in research methodologies and outcomes.
- Anticipate and plan for the group’s growth, ensuring resources, processes, and structures are in place to support an expanding team.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years in UX research roles within the big tech industry, including at least 2 years in a leadership position.
- People Skills: Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support individuals in high-impact and focused environments.
- Communication: Clear and effective communicator, skilled at aligning stakeholders and resolving conflicts.
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills with experience leading kickoff calls and managing timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working or contracting at Google.
- Familiarity with contractor management and the dynamics of independent project work.
- Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed environments.
- Background in managing research processes with minimal product involvement.
