About This Position

Virginia Theatre Festival is seeking a Charge Artist for our Summer 2025 season to support the build, run, and strike of our season’s productions. VTF will produce a three-show summer season. This position reports to the Technical Director.

Qualified candidates will possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills and the ability to organize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment. Applicants must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team situation. Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
Contract Dates: May 27-July 11, 2025
Work Schedule: This position will work 40 hours/week in variable schedules and is eligible for overtime with managerial approval. Day, weekend, and evening hours required.
Housing: We provide housing within walking distance of our theatre for those employed from out of town.
Work Authorization Requirement: US work authorization is required.

Job Duties

  1. Schedule and manage all paint needs for the season
  2. Ensure tools and equipment utilized in the shop are in safe working order
  3. Manage and track shop inventory (including paint, tools, brushes, etc.)
  4. Work with the Technical Director and Master Carpenter to schedule all aspects of scenic painting and finishing
  5. Ensure projects are completed on time for the production schedule

Required Experience + Skills

  1. Faux finishing, layout, and other related advanced scenic painting experience
  2. Material and time management experience
  3. Color mixing
  4. Ability to interpret renderings and elevations
  5. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
