About the Department/College

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northern Arizona University prepares highly effective, culturally diverse speech, language, and hearing professionals to serve and advocate for individuals in their communities. We provide innovative, accessible, student-centered educational programs in an inclusive and caring environment.

We offer a Master of Science degree in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology through a competitive full-time or part-time (Summer Track) program. The Summer Track program includes cohorts of students at both the Flagstaff Mountain Campus and at the NAU Yuma campus. We also offer an undergraduate degree to prepare students for graduate work in speech-language pathology and audiology, as well as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certificate program.


About the Position

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Clinical Professor at the Flagstaff Mountain Campus. The individual in this position will serve as the academic and clinical coordinator, as well as an advisor for the students in the part-time Summer Track Master's degree program in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology.

This position is a 12-month clinical non-tenure eligible position, beginning June 2, 2025.

The successful candidate will provide guidance to graduate students throughout their 38-month program, monitor their clinical practicum experiences, and maintain regular contact with off-campus clinical supervisors, which may require some travel to clinical sites.

Teaching responsibilities will include conducting face-to-face and/or online classes within the department, as well as leading weekly seminar meetings for Summer Track clinical practicum students. Service to the department will involve assisting the Department Chair in overseeing the Summer Track curriculum and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. There will also be opportunities for direct clinical supervision of students and participation in scholarly activities.


Responsibilities Include:

  1. Facilitating the academic and clinical education of graduate students enrolled in the Summer Track Master's degree program in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology.
  2. Advising graduate students during their 38-month program of study.
  3. Monitoring students' clinical practicum experiences.
  4. Maintaining regular contact with off-campus clinical supervisors.
  5. Overseeing the admissions process for the Summer Track program.
  6. Teaching the online clinical methods class for the Summer Track students.
  7. Facilitating grand rounds, seminars, and praxis preparation for Summer Track students.
  8. Teaching additional face-to-face and/or online classes in the individual's areas of expertise.
  9. Assisting the Department Chair in monitoring the Summer Track curriculum and adherence to accreditation standards.
  10. Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and ASHA requirements for clinical education programs.
  11. Tracking graduation, post-graduation, and employment data.
  12. Direct clinical supervision of students.
  13. Participation in service to the department, college, university, and profession.
  14. Participation in scholarly activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  2. Current ASHA certification.
  3. Eligibility for Arizona state licensure and certification by the Arizona Department of Education.
  4. At least three years of experience as a practicing speech-language pathologist.
  5. Experience supervising SLP and/or SLPA student clinicians.
  6. A record of personal and/or professional experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience. This is a Faculty (FAC) position.
