About the Role

ASI is looking for an experienced and driven UX/UI Designer to improve the user experience of our command-and-control platform. You will be responsible for designing intuitive workflows, enhancing usability, and ensuring consistency across all UI components. This role requires a balance of strong design principles, strategic thinking, and technical collaboration.

The UX/UI Designer will work closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to create designs that align with ASI's existing design system while identifying opportunities for improvement. You will be expected to conduct user testing, advocate for design best practices, and ensure seamless interactions for both desktop and mobile interfaces.

Job Duties

User Experience & Interface Design

• Design user-centric workflows that align with ASI's command and control platform.
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI mockups using Adobe XD and Figma.
• Follow ASI's existing UI design system to maintain visual consistency and usability standards.
• Conduct usability testing and user research, gathering feedback from internal testers and external users when available.
• Ensure designs are accessible, intuitive, and aligned with industry best practices.

Collaboration & Implementation

• Work directly with product managers, developers, and engineers to define UX requirements and translate them into design solutions.
• Review technical feasibility of designs and collaborate with developers to ensure smooth implementation.
• Support front-end development efforts, particularly as the UI transitions toward HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (Angular 2).
• Assist with mobile UI design, including touch-based interactions for tablets and field devices.
• Participate in design critiques and iterative feedback sessions to refine UI components.

Process Improvement & Documentation

• Advocate for user-centered design methodologies throughout the development process.
• Document UX research findings, usability testing results, and best practices to improve future projects.
• Identify opportunities for streamlining workflows and improving the handoff process between UX designers and developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's (or Master's) degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 7+ years of experience in UI/UX design with a portfolio showcasing high-quality designs and problem-solving approaches.
• Experience designing complex software interfaces with a focus on usability and efficiency.
• Proficiency in UX design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript (Angular 2 preferred) and front-end development collaboration.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and experience working in iterative development cycles.
• Familiarity with lifecycle management tools such as JIRA, DevOps, or similar platforms.
• Ability to justify and communicate design decisions effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and UI optimization.
• Strong negotiation and collaboration skills, ensuring that design principles are maintained while balancing technical constraints.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing touch-based UI for tablets, rugged devices, or mobile applications.
• Familiarity with XAML-based UI design for desktop software.
• Experience in real-time data visualization or command and control interfaces.
• Ability to conduct UX research and A/B testing with a focus on improving usability and adoption.
