We are looking for a professional and enthusiastic individual to join the Trauma & Orthopaedic Secretarial Team, assisting in providing full admin support to our Consultants and clinical team, to deliver a safe and efficient service within the Trauma & Orthopaedic Team.

Main duties of the job

Your duties will include audio typing of correspondence, updating patient pathways, preparing clinic correspondence, as well as providing admin support to the wider team. You will also deal with a variety of other clerical duties.

You will need fast and accurate audio typing skills. You should have good written and oral communication skills and function well as part of a team, using your own initiative and ability to prioritise work to achieve deadlines. You will need to be competent in a range of IT packages, including MS Office.

The role of secretarial assistant is interesting and varied and offers the opportunity to develop further.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide an audio typing and administration support service within a department.
  • To perform all allocated secretarial and administration tasks required to meet the needs of the service.
  • To undergo training as necessary to meet the needs of new developments.
  • Audio typing of correspondence.
  • Updating comments on e-Track according to letter contents.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level standard English Language at Grade A - C (or equivalent)
  • NVQ 2 in Business Administration
  • RSA II typing or equivalent in typing
  • Audio typing qualification or recent relevant experience

Experience

  • Experience of using MS Office, particularly MS Word and Outlook
  • Experience of using Hospital systems, for example PAS (Patient Administration System)
  • Experience of working with the general public and/or professionals

Key Skills

  • Good standard of written and verbal communication
  • Organisational skills and a flexible approach to work

Knowledge

  • Demonstrate an understanding of customer care/ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Confidentiality and the Data Protection ACT
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team
