Open Position: Content Automation Developer

Position Summary

We are looking for a motivated and tech-savvy Minnesota based professional to join our team as a Content Automation Developer. This position plays a key role in supporting the tools and processes that transform educational content into high-quality deliverables, aligning with HC’s mission to provide impactful and accessible learning experiences. By improving content development efficiency, enabling detailed reporting, and managing various content formats, the Content Automation Developer helps ensure our materials meet the highest standards while driving innovation.

In this role, you’ll work closely with content and software teams to streamline content workflows and address technical challenges with internal tools and systems. A typical day might include scripting a technical solution for a product need, converting educational content across multiple formats, analyzing content data to generate actionable insights, and/or troubleshooting production issues. You’ll also have the chance to explore technologies like generative AI and taxonomy management to enhance our capabilities and contribute to the evolution of our content tools and systems roadmap.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Transform content from DITA and Microsoft Word to multiple formats, including PDF, EPUB, and other XML outputs.
  2. Write, run, and maintain internal production tools and triage bugs.
  3. Support content and software teams by providing technical support for internal tools and content management.
  4. Support our content development capability by providing reporting and data analysis on content metrics.
  5. Explore new technologies for expanding content capabilities for our customers (generative AI, etc.).
  6. Actively participate in developing and maintaining the roadmap for technology tools and environments.

What You’ll Bring:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of Python.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of data formats like XML and JSON.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of parsing data using regex, XPath, or similar.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of HTML/CSS and separation of content from style.
  5. Comprehensive knowledge of using Excel/Google Sheets for data manipulation and analysis.
  6. Eagerness to learn and assimilate technical information rapidly.
  7. Ability to present and demonstrate complex technology concepts clearly and concisely.
  8. Strong analytical skills with a belief that every problem has at least one solution.
  9. Excellent technical and problem-solving skills, capable of understanding and troubleshooting complex systems and applications.
  10. Strong ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-growing, dynamic work environment.
  11. Outstanding data-driven analytical approach to problem-solving.

Preferred:

  1. Experience with DITA-based content management systems and content transformation toolkits like DITA-OT.
  2. Experience with Oxygen XML Editor.
  3. Experience with content accessibility (i.e., WCAG compliance) and enhancing user experiences with HTML markup.
  4. Experience with taxonomy management.
