The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico. NMDOT's Special Projects Office develops, administers and implements projects as assigned by the Secretary of Transportation and his Executive Director in alignment with the overall goals and objectives of the NMDOT. Special Projects Office supports the NMDOT through participation in rapidly evolving areas, previously unassigned or which require additional support. Special Projects works with NMDOT leadership to address transportation issues and coordinates projects for Highway Operations, Business Support, and the Program Support areas. Special Projects is responsible for projects that span the Capital Improvement Program (ICIP) for state-wide facility improvement, Workforce Development and Employee Engagement, Constituent Services, and the State's Electrification Program. The Office of Special Projects is responsible for the electrification goals codified under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) passed in November 2021 as well as state appropriations regarding State of NM electrification goals. Staff of the Office of Special Projects are responsible for creating an EV charging system that is convenient, affordable, reliable, equitable, accessible, while supporting economic development opportunities in rural and disadvantaged areas or our state. Why does the job exist? The Public Relations Coordinator - Advanced position will focus on coordinating, expanding, and enhancing communication capabilities to boost public awareness of the NMDOT and its Special Projects Office, particularly our work and initiatives on the State's Electrification Program. The position will create and execute marketing strategies to inform, advertise, and attract public interest in NMDOT and its special projects, particularly our electrification work and initiatives. How does it get done? Key Responsibilities: - Attending conferences and meetings, - Preparing press releases, - Monitoring media coverage, - Creating promotional material, - Generating social media content, and - Capturing video and photography in the field, at events, as necessary. Who are the customers? The NMDOT, the traveling public, the media, and the New Mexico taxpayer. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas: *Degree in Communications *Strong interpersonal skills *Strong written and verbal communication skills *Experience creating press releases, promotional material, and social media content *Experience filming video and taking still photographs *Creative Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing and two (2) years of experience in journalism, advertising, and and/or marketing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. No substitutions apply for semester hours. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), as well as in the field, with extensive personal computer and phone usage.
