This position is located in the Research and Climate Bureau of the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Planning Division in Albuquerque. The Research and Climate Bureau is tasked with administering research on innovative materials and processes in order to assist the NMDOT in providing more efficient and effective delivery of transportation infrastructure and services to the traveling public.
Why does the job exist?
The Librarian III is responsible for finding, processing, maintaining and disseminating information in the form of research publications and reports from NMDOT, other states and federal sources to internal and external customers. The position will ensure that accurate and timely information related to transportation is available to the NMDOT, other state and federal agencies and the public.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for retrieving information in response to both internal and external requests; conducting literature reviews; maintaining records (both physical records and on-line databases); providing technical writing, editing and publishing skills; performing Bureau web page updates; and assisting the Bureau with publishing completed research in national databases.
Who are the customers?
The Research and Climate Bureau of the Planning Division, the NMDOT, the transportation research community, the citizens of New Mexico and the general public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following:
* Degree in Library Science, Information Science, Archival Studies, Organizational Management or similar field of study.
* Familiarity with workplace records management, reference and retrieval.
* Technical writing, reading comprehension, editing and publishing skills.
* Microsoft Word, Excel and similar programs.
* Web design.
* Detail oriented and highly organized.
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country) with two (2) years experience in performing and providing advanced library technical operations, effective library and information services, plus cataloging experience and managerial experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual Display terminals and extensive computer usage. Some in state and out of state travel may be required. Lifting of up to 25 lbs., moving of boxes, shelving, and climbing of stairs.
