Position Description

The Department of Art, Media, Performance, and Design, along with the Media X Program at the University of the Pacific, is accepting applications for two full-time, renewable, non-tenure-track Lecturer/Instructor positions in Animation, Visual Effects, Film Editing, or Game Design. These three-year positions will begin on August 15, 2025.

We are accepting applications until Dec 1st 2024. The department will begin application review on Dec 1st 2024.

The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) is committed to excellence in undergraduate education, offering future artists, designers, performers, and media makers a rewarding program in a personal, supportive, and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Animation, Visual Effects, Film Editing, or Game Design.
  • Teach a minimum of 24 units (typically 6-7 courses depending on units) per year, advise students, participate in departmental and program service. Coursework may include foundation, intermediate, and advanced courses.
  • Develop innovative course materials and projects that reflect current industry standards and emerging trends.
  • Mentor students, providing guidance on academic and career pathways.
  • Teach students industry-standard software in their specialty.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental projects.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance our interdisciplinary programs and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or equivalent) in Animation, Visual Effects, Film Editing, Game Design, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of effective teaching at the collegiate level or practice in a professional studio.
  • A strong portfolio of work in visual effects, film editing, or game design.
  • Commitment to innovative pedagogy and student-centered learning.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Hiring Range: $69,000 per year to $70,900 per year.
