Course Description
- Personal Statement Writing: Personal Statement instruction is a significant part of the daily schedule. Students receive one-on-one advice and instruction from expert educators to complete this portion of their application by the end of the program.
In the college admissions process, the Personal Statement is a chance for students to stand out. Personal statements demonstrate writing facility, allow uniqueness to shine, and identify characteristics for college admission. The College Admission Prep Camp offers students hours of one-on-one consulting with expert writing instructors to hone this critical piece of writing.
Students will learn to express their self-awareness, imagination, and curiosity, making them attractive candidates for selective colleges. They will choose topics, develop ideas, edit for content and style, and avoid common pitfalls. By the end of the program, each student will have written 2-3 essay responses from the Common Application and explored supplemental essay topics ready for submission.
- College Counseling: College Admission Prep Camp provides each participant with direct access to top guidance counselors. After an initial interest inventory, counselors help identify excellent universities appropriate for each student’s interests and academic background.
Job Description
The Personal Statement/College Counseling Instructor is responsible for guiding students through two components of our College Admissions Prep Camp Instruction: helping each student complete 1-2 longer or several shorter personal statement responses ready for submission. The curriculum aims to help each student brainstorm, write, and revise a strong essay that is entirely their own work. The instructor will deliver group instruction on writing for college admissions and provide one-on-one feedback.
Additionally, the instructor will lead small group and one-on-one college counseling sessions, guiding students through the admissions process and helping them create a detailed timeline/action plan based on their individual goals.
Class sizes are kept small (average 10 students) to allow personalized attention. Instructors will also track student work and submit deliverables to the camp director and EU home office.
On-Campus Additional Duties
In addition to teaching, on-campus instructors should assist the camp director with active supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks. Instructors are expected to act as mentors and guide students on excursions, ensuring their health and safety while fulfilling instructional objectives.
