Position Description:
The Research and Innovation Communication and Marketing Specialist IV will be an energetic and service-oriented team member who is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive research communications vision and marketing strategy for the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) at the University of Louisville. The plan will be collaboratively developed and implemented in ongoing and close communication with the Executive Vice President, Associate Vice Presidents, unit Directors within ORI, and the campus community. The Communications and Marketing Specialist will distribute critical information on ORI-related matters to campus and outside stakeholders. This includes managing and developing concepts, storytelling, materials and channels for communicating research impacts, working collaboratively with the UofL Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) to ensure adherence to university branding and web standards, regularly updating the OCM liaison on upcoming groundbreaking research to promote university research messaging to various media outlets, and developing and leveraging resources available within OCM to communicate and market products for distribution to key communities and outlets via a variety of media. The communication and marketing specialist will also support speech and report writing for the ORI leadership, develop and maintain ORI web and social media content, and lead/support/plan/execute events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research and Innovation Communications and Marketing Specialist is responsible for identification of key audiences, development and executing of communications strategies to meet office and institutional goals and ensuring alignment with overall institutional marketing efforts in collaboration with the ORI team. Key Responsibilities:
This position is located primarily on the JD Nichols Campus for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, located in downtown Louisville.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$98,100.00
Target Compensation Minimum:
$65,400.00
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.

- Oversee strategic marketing and communications plans of Office of Research and Innovation and underlying units. This will include developing content and stories promoting UofL research and innovation accomplishments and a content calendar.
- Create compelling visual aids using digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, including infographics, social media graphics, and presentations
- Manage social media presence and digital communications channels
- Oversee the Office of Research and Innovation website. This position is responsible for content and will work in conjunction with IT personnel and web intern(s) on technical aspects of web development.
- Write press releases, feature stories, newsletters, and marketing materials - In collaboration with OCM and academic units
- Coordinate with faculty, staff, and external partners for media opportunities such as news conferences
- Track metrics and analyze communication effectiveness, including digital metrics using tools such as Google Analytics, SalesForce Marketing Cloud, and other tools
- Serve as project manager for large and small scale research-focused events and promotional activities
- Maintain CRM (Salesforce) database to track research partnerships, media contacts, and engagement metrics
- Responsible for review and approval of university and community wide communications being sent through salesforce on behalf of ORI and underlying units.
- Other marketing and communications duties as assigned
- Advanced degree(s) in business or related technical field and 8 years of progressive, relevant professional experience specifically in science and technology communication and marketing.
- 5+ years experience in communications/marketing, preferably in scientific, higher education, or research
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software
- Experience with Salesforce CRM and Google Analytics
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Strong project management abilities
- Experience with digital marketing and social media management
- Demonstrated media relations experience
- Strategic Communication - Plans and executes research communication strategies
- Visual Design - Creates compelling graphics and marketing materials
- Digital Analytics - Leverages data tools to measure engagement and impact
- Relationship Management - Builds strong partnerships with researchers and stakeholders
