About the Cannabis Collective
The Cannabis Collective is a fast-growing network of New York-based cannabis professionalsfrom cultivators and brand owners to policy experts, entrepreneurs, and service providers. We currently host intimate executive gatherings, large community events, and online forums that encourage meaningful connections, knowledge sharing, and collaborative growth. With a goal to expand executive membership and an actively engaged community of several thousand, we are seeking a Community Manager who can streamline operations, respond to member feedback, and ultimately evolve into a General Manager role.
Role Overview
The Community Manager will be responsible for implementing solutions and improvements based on member feedback, deepening engagement within our Executive Membership, and building out broader community initiatives that drive membership growth and event participation. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for members, oversee day-to-day community interactions, manage event coordination, and develop strategic growth plans to achieve our target membership and revenue goals.
As the organization scales, this individual will have the opportunity to transition into a General Manager role, taking on increased leadership responsibilities, strategic oversight, and overall operational management of the Collective.
Key Responsibilities
1. Member Feedback & Engagement
Implement Actionable Solutions: Review and prioritize member feedback to create structured programs (e.g., membership roadmaps, synergy-building sessions, regular meet-ups, etc.).
Communication & Onboarding: Develop an onboarding experience for new Executive Members and community participants, ensuring they understand and leverage all benefits.
Community Platform Management: Moderate online forums (WhatsApp, Slack, or other channels), respond to inquiries, and keep conversations organized and value-focused.
2. Event Planning & Execution
Programming & Logistics: Plan and execute regular executive dinners, community-wide gatherings, and the annual Summer Retreat.
Vendor & Partner Coordination: Liaise with venues, caterers, sponsors, and speakers; manage budgets, contracts, and logistics.
Marketing & Promotion: Collaborate with internal/external teams to develop event collateral, email campaigns, social media posts, and post-event follow-ups.
3. Membership Growth & Retention
Recruitment & Outreach: Identify prospective Executive Members, craft outreach strategies, and convert qualified leads to meet the 250-member goal.
Membership Retention: Create initiatives and perks that boost member satisfaction, such as exclusive roundtables, brand showcases, or guided networking opportunities.
Upsells & Partnerships: Explore and develop sponsorship or partnership opportunities that add value to members while driving revenue.
4. Strategic Initiatives & Community Expansion
Multi-Channel Engagement: Increase participation across events, podcasts, career fairs, and online platforms to build a robust community beyond the Executive Membership.
Content Creation & Curation: Work with subject matter experts to host Q&A sessions, produce thought leadership articles, or coordinate podcasts/webinars.
Industry Synergy: Facilitate introductions and partnerships among members, bridging the legacy market with newer entrants and ensuring inclusive representation.
5. Path to General Manager
Operational Oversight: Gradually take on broader managerial responsibilities, including financial planning, staff management, and strategic decision-making.
Performance Tracking: Set and measure KPIs for membership growth, event ROI, and community engagement; present regular reports to Collective leadership.
Long-Term Vision: Contribute to organizational strategy and help shape the future of the Collective in New Yorks evolving cannabis landscape.
Salary
$35 - $45 USD per hourRequired Skills
Experience: 35+ years in community management, event planning, membership-driven organizations, or related fields. Experience in cannabis or adjacent industries is a strong plus.
Skills:
Organizational & Project Management: Ability to juggle multiple events and initiatives while meeting deadlines and budgets.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience moderating forums or leading discussions is beneficial.
Relationship Building: Proven track record of cultivating partnerships, member relationships, or client pipelines.
Strategic Mindset: Familiarity with setting and meeting revenue or membership goals; comfortable using data to drive decisions.
Event Planning: Experience with logistics, vendor management, and creative program design.
Tech Savvy: Comfortable with community management platforms, CRM tools, social media, and basic marketing software.
