SUMMARY
Tasked with defining and executing the Monitor's unique mission-oriented approach to editorials, which represent the values and voice of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
STAFF MANAGEMENT AND JOB CONTACTS
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Chief Editorial Writer. Helps supervise any other editorial writers, staff or freelance.
Regular Contacts: Chief Editorial Writer, Editor, Board of Directors
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience: This job requires 10 years of experience in journalism, and preferably with the Monitor.
Knowledge/Skills: A clear understanding of the Monitor's purpose and mission in relation to the Cause of Christian Science, and of how that purpose can be translated into news reporting worldwide, is essential.
Technology Skills: Proficient in all relevant Monitor editing tools, including G-Suite, Slack, Webin, and EZ-Publish. Ability to stay abreast of emerging technologies.
Work Environment: Ability to work collaboratively and humbly with the Directors in taking feedback, and with the Chief Editorial Writer and Monitor Editor in crafting the Monitor's editorial approach.
Engagement with Christian Science: Mother Church membership and Primary class instruction required.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

- Works with the Chief Editorial Writer in defining the Monitor approach to editorials in collaboration with the Editor and Board of Directors, deeply considering:
- The mission of the Monitor to "spread undivided the Science that operates unspent" (My. 353:16)
- Eddy's understanding that "human opinions are not spiritual" (S&H 192:6-7) and therefore not a firm foundation for Monitor editorials
- Writes editorials that reach that standard.
- Consistently embraces the globe in editorial topics.
- Helps build and manage a team that supports that effort.
