Job Description
DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Strategic Communication invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track (NTT) faculty position in Advertising within with an emphasis on creative design and production. The ideal candidate would bring professional experience and current industry expertise in advertising. Although this role is primarily focused on advertising, the faculty member would contribute to the broader Department of Strategic Communication, which also includes the major in Social Media & PR as well as a new MA in Strategic Communication & Media. An ideal candidate would bring expertise in teaching the creative side of advertising (ex. copywriting, art direction, production) and the ability to teach design-focused courses. Such expertise would also contribute to the required production and design coursework, which serves all students in the Department of Strategic Communication, including those specializing in advertising and social media & public relations. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the Non-Tenure Track faculty member in Advertising will actively contribute to the Department of Strategic Communication through essential service activities. This includes participating in admissions open houses to engage prospective students and promote the department's programs, assisting with departmental events that enhance the student and faculty community, and supporting extracurricular initiatives such as the Advertising Club, PRSSA, and Hawk Communications Agency. The faculty member will also provide academic advising during registration periods to guide students in course selection and degree planning. By engaging in these activities, the prospective faculty member will play a vital role in fostering student success, strengthening departmental visibility, and enhancing the overall educational experience for Strategic Communication majors.
Position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must have professional work experience in advertising. They must understand and be able to teach the dynamic shifts in the advertising industry, including the areas of creative, design, and/or production noted in the position description. Previous teaching excellence in advertising or strategic communications is strongly preferred. We truly value candidates who are able to bring industry relationships to campus. Bachelor’s degree in communication, advertising, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
THE SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA:
Founded in 2012, the School of Communication and Media offers a range of dynamic programs in communication and media to a talented and diverse student population of approximately 2000 students. Due to its ongoing growth and success, the School will become the College of Communication and Media beginning in 2025, allowing for even greater opportunity for student success and national recognition. Offering degrees in film and television, social media and public relations, advertising, journalism and digital media, sports communication, animation and visual effects, and a new MA in Strategic Communication & Media, the School prepares the next generation of communication and media practitioners and leaders. It maintains several critical strategic partnerships, including membership in NBCU Academy and the summer residency program for Ghetto Film School. The School houses award-winning student programs that include WMSC Radio, The Montclarion newspaper, Hawk Communications PR Agency, the Red Hawk Sports Network, Hawk+ OTT streaming platform, a Los Angeles residential program, and News Lab, as well as the Joetta Di Bella and Fred C. Sautter III Center for Strategic Communication and the Center for Cooperative Media, the latter of which serves the public by working to grow and strengthen local and collaborative journalism. Recent national recognitions for the School include an Edward R. Murrow Award, several Marconi Award nominations, and two College Television Awards from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, a finalist in the Coca Cola Refreshing Films competition, a second place finish in the Bateman PR competition, and several SVG Sports Media nominations.
