HJF is seeking a Senior Technical Editor. This position edits written content in competitive proposals for research funding and provides expert proposal consulting and training to HJF customers, partners, and internal departments.
This position will be in support of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Uniformed Services University Department of Surgery and its associated research Centers and Programs.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic, and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing editorial and writing skills in connection with all phases of the preparation and issuance of textual content, including technical reports, articles, books, journals, scripts, graphic products, and multimedia products.
- Proofreads, edits, rewrites, reviews, and formats scientific content for specialized medical and technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, articles, books, and other material for print and/or web publications.
- Liaise with scientific authors and peer review editors to provide recommendations for improving scientific work quality.
- Contributes to editing and modifying research documents to include press releases, abstracts, posters, project narratives, PowerPoint presentations, and manuscripts, including formatting for scientific figures, charts, and tables.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Journalism, English, or Science with strong biological literacy required.
- Minimum of 9-10 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Expert grants knowledge; ability to multi-task and manage multiple simultaneous proposal efforts.
- Expert knowledge of needed software applications (e.g., MS Word, PowerPoint, EndNote).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 public trust investigation.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a telework setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$110,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
