REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation, & Arts
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs duties focused on enhancing the Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department brand through development of visual promotional materials and participation in various events. The position involves creating on-brand graphic communications for both digital and print, translating messaging concepts into marketing materials, and supporting Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department outreach efforts. This is not a remote position and requires in-person attendance.
- Develops visual promotional materials for the Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department marketing and communications efforts.
- Design clear, on-brand graphic communications for digital and print materials.
- Translate messaging concepts into effective marketing materials.
- Create compelling visual content for City’s website and department social media platforms.
- Assist with market research and branding initiatives.
- Support Parks, Recreation, and Arts events, tabling, and other outreach efforts.
- Serves as editor, contributing writer, and photographer for Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department print and digital content.
PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Associate’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum three years of related experience in government, higher education, or community-focused field. Proficient in digital photography a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated mastery with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere.
- Actively contributing to a positive and encouraging work environment.
- Strong planning skills and attention to detail.
- Comfort in the outdoors for special events and programs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to disseminate information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of projects concurrently.
- Work irregular hours, including nights and weekends and some holidays.
- Develop and monitor various social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Newsletters, etc.).
License(s)/Certification(s) Required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This work regularly requires standing, walking, and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting, speaking, or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting.
Must frequently refine existing work methods and develop new techniques, concepts or programs within established limits or policies. Work is typically performed indoors at a desk or table with intermittent sitting, standing, and stooping. Must lift light objects such as cameras, video equipment, laptop computers (less than 25 pounds) as a requirement of the job.
