JOB SUMMARY

Research and Instruction is a faculty position that provides reference and information literacy services to the SNU community. The Research Librarian will build research and instruction teams from the library staff and directly supervise the part-time reference librarians. This will be a learner focused librarian who will lead outreach programs to impact students with research skills and knowledge of quality library resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the information station including virtual platforms.
  • Schedules and supervises part time reference librarians.
  • Responds to information requests from SNU faculty, students, staff and alumni.
  • Collaborates with teaching faculty to deliver research and information instruction.
  • Develops and teaches sessions on research and information literacy.
  • Designs and produces information and instruction materials for regular use.
  • Lead the library colleagues in planning, developing and delivering instruction.
  • Develops evaluation tools to assess instruction and reference services.
  • Provides on-demand reference services through libguides and other platforms.
  • Initiates information sharing and outreach services.
  • Recommends library research sources for acquisition.
  • Works evening or weekends shift.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Southern Nazarene University is an expression of the Church of the Nazarene.   • Master’s degree from ALA accredited library science program.
  • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity.
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience and/or relevant training
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fast paced work environment
  • Experience with various computer software applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional master’s degree
  • Experience in higher education
