Job Summary:
Cleveland State University’s (CSU) College of Health (COH) and Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) invite applications for a full-time tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor to teach in the bachelor’s and growing master’s degree programs beginning August 18, 2025. This is an on-campus position. A primary function of this position is to assist in coordinating clinical placements for students in the residential MA program in CSD, clinical supervision, and teaching in the residential and emerging online master’s degree program in speech-language pathology. The graduate program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CAA/ASHA).

This is a 9-month academic year contract with the possibility of a supplemental summer contract.

The successful candidate will demonstrate professional knowledge, administrative and management skills, and higher education accreditation experience. Excellent time management, organizational ability, and effective communication skills are required, as are the potential for excellence in online teaching and commitment to online education.

This position is responsible for fulfilling all required responsibilities as outlined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) accreditation standards including program development in accordance with ASHA accreditation standards and those as required by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce. Duties include working with faculty colleagues on course development, securing clinical sites/partnerships, assisting in student recruitment, and liaising with appropriate stakeholders. This position may collaborate with the School of Education and Counseling to coordinate external school placements for graduate students. This position will also provide clinical supervision, direct student clinicians in all professional clinical practice domains, teach CSD classes, appropriately assess student learning and performance, and assist in initiating community partnerships. The successful candidate will be required to maintain clinical currency.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is housed in the COH, along with the departments of Health Sciences & Human Performance, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work. Together, the COH offers more than 23 undergraduate and graduate academic programs in health professions, nursing programs, social work and related certificate programs all designed to provide clinical and experiential learning, interprofessional practice, and scholarship activities. The COH operates two on-site health clinics that provide hands-on training to our students and health care to our communities. The COH deeply understands its role in advancing health equity, uniquely preparing practitioners and clinicians to practice and lead in a rapidly changing healthcare system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, speech and hearing sciences, or a closely related field (e.g., M.A. or M.S.) from a regionally accredited institution;
  2. Seven years of clinical experience as a speech-language pathologist;
  3. Annual maintenance of the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and Ohio licensure in speech-language pathology;
  4. Experience as a supervisor, trainer, or mentor of speech-language pathologists;
  5. Evidence of the potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. An earned doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a related field conferred by August 2025;
  2. Academic coursework beyond the Master’s degree;
  3. Ohio Department of Education teaching licensure in speech-language pathology or (or eligible to obtain);
  4. Evidence of successful teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders;
  5. Experience in placing students in clinical settings;
  6. Record of academic and/or professional service in communication sciences and disorders;
  7. Experience promoting inter-professional education;
  8. Experience in educational technology and distance learning.
