Job Description Summary
Bentley University invites applications for a lecturer position in Multimedia Journalism to begin July 1, 2025. The position will teach undergraduate journalism and media courses and be the advisor for the student newspaper and digital media platform, The Bentley Vanguard. The successful candidate will have expertise in news reporting and writing, multimedia production, and social/digital media management. Candidates should be well-versed in the intersections between these areas, possess recent work experience in well-established publications, understand the evolving news media landscape, and be dedicated to preparing students for an increasingly complex and competitive professional media environment. Teaching or leadership experience is a requirement. Candidates should commit to teaching diverse populations. Teaching load for lecturer positions is 8 courses per year.

Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate journalism and media courses, including Introduction to Multimedia Journalism or equivalent courses, such as Reporting the News, Data Journalism, Citizen Journalism, Environmental Journalism, or Financial Reporting.
- Offer knowledge and experience in multimedia news reporting or production, newsgathering, sourcing and verification, writing for diverse audiences and publications, and imagining the future of journalism.
- Serve as the advisor for the student newspaper and digital media platform, The Bentley Vanguard.
- Integrate and develop various media opportunities at The Bentley Vanguard, such as supporting the digital platform with streaming, podcasting, live video, and other content formats.
- Participate in department meetings.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Journalism, Communication, or related field.
- Experience in multimedia storytelling and news reporting.
- Ability/willingness to mentor students seeking internships and professional experience.
- Prepare and teach courses following approved course descriptions and class schedules, including the development of syllabi and reading lists, as well as updating course content and materials to reflect current trends in media.
- Demonstrate ability in curriculum development and assessment.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
- Culturally sensitive with an understanding and appreciation of a multicultural college community.
- Experience in undergraduate teaching preferred.
- Experience in advising student publications preferred.
