Basic Function
Provide reference service and library-related technology assistance to library patrons of all ages.

REPORTS TO: Reference and Adult Services Librarian
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
Typical Duties
1. Provide public assistance at the Reference desk and elsewhere as required.
2. Instruct and assist patrons in the use of library resources.
3. Assist patrons with use of computer and other reference equipment.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university/college.
2. Experience with personal computers and automated library systems.
3. Experience as a professional librarian preferred.
4. PREFERRED: Ability to have and maintain a valid driver's license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Demonstrated ability in effective communication, both written and oral, with public and co-workers.
2. Familiarity with public library practices and principles.
OTHER
1. This position requires a criminal background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
Does not supervise; experiences minor problems daily and occasional major ones that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require significant effort to recover.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Private/general office where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions, where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of light lifting, pushing or pulling (1-25 lbs.).
