The Multimedia Photographer is a creative storyteller helping to document the Mariners' mission, growth, and impact on the community. This position works closely with Multimedia team members who specialize in film and animation, ensuring that the Mariners' stewardship and engagement activities are captured from all perspectives and convey our mission to connect people to the water and one another. Ideal imagery should build connections with new audiences, deepen engagement with partners and donors, and show how we are helping to build a stronger community. Within the broader Advancement Team, this team member is a key partner for the Marketing and Development teams, whose primary purpose is to drive brand awareness and revenue to support the mission.

To ensure desired results are obtained from each project, the ability to communicate clearly and be deadline-driven will be key attributes. The Multimedia Photographer will be able to capture a wide range of subjects, from school groups and community festivals to conservation progress and artifacts in the galleries or behind the scenes. Cross-departmental collaboration is required.

Images produced may be used in a variety of ways helping to expand audiences and deepen engagement:
  • Ahoy! member magazine, produced bi-annually,
  • Content creation for social media channels, and
  • Stock photography content for distribution.

Duties:

Marketing & Event Photography
  • Manages the Marketing Photography production process to include: (1) Setting up shots, (2) scheduling models, props, and locations, (3) styling subjects, and (4) editing using post-production photo editing software.
  • Manage the Event Photography production process to include:
    • Interacting with guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.
    • Posing subjects when relevant such as awards and impromptu posed shots.
    • Capturing candid photos of attendees interacting with one another at social events
    • Documenting the event as it progresses.
    • Photographing presenters, performers, or other attendees for promotional use.

General
  • Manage workflows to ensure all information is captured and shared with stakeholders using designated project management tools.
  • Prepares, uploads, and organizes production files on the Digital Asset Management System and ensures appropriate metadata is embedded and established naming conventions are applied, locates assets and training team members, and ensures process files are copied to the backup server.
  • Works with Digital Services to develop the Mariners' Digital Preservation Policy.
  • Knowledge of photographic printing using medium and large format printers.
  • Support special photography-related projects, as needed.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Experience in producing high-quality and powerful images using visual styles, exposure, focus, composition, light, and post-processing.
  • Understanding of computers, photo editing software, and digital asset management applications with experience in systems such as MacOS, Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop, Lightroom, Microsoft Excel, and Google Workspace.
  • Must be able to apply to understand and apply color management best practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • In-depth knowledge of color theory, image size, and resolution.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Work effectively as a team member and lead project-specific teams.
  • Ability to create a visually appealing image, including props.
  • Experience with setup and adjustment of lighting to create various lighting effects.
  • Experience with various types of equipment such as DSLR and mirrorless digital cameras, tripods, lenses, and speed and strobe lighting.

Education and Experience:
  • High school Degree or equivalent is required
  • Advanced training or experience in photography or a related field is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the studio/photo industry required.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment.


Salary Description
