As Principal UX/UI Manager, you bring empathy for users, strategic vision and hands-on leadership to uncover opportunities, and design simple and delightful experiences that meet the needs of consumers, partners and customers, achieve business goals and fulfill Medica's mission to better our member's lives with care in the moments that matter. This position is critical to driving the evolution of Medica's public and authenticated digital experiences as well as our native app with a strong emphasis in both UX and user interface (UI) design, ensuring the integration of modern design trends and intuitive interfaces. This role will oversee product designers and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders and digital product teams to optimize self-service capabilities, enhance personalization, and bring our brand, Mission and Purpose to life, helping Medica realize the full value of our digital investment. This role also ensures that work is implemented successfully, optimized long term and applied more broadly across other audiences, experiences and platforms. The ideal candidate is a champion of both UX strategy and UI design, with a portfolio showcasing impactful digital solutions. Areas of responsibility This role includes end to end UX/UI support: UX LEADERSHIP Drive the overall UX design strategy across native app and web platforms, balancing immediate needs with long-term growth opportunities Align design initiatives with business goals, ensuring consistency across multiple brands while fostering innovation and brand differentiation Continue to optimize and govern use of scalable design systems and patterns that promote efficiency, quality, and accessibility
TEAM MANAGEREMENT Lead, mentor, and inspire 2-5 product designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture Ensure alignment and collaboration across internal and external teams, including digital product, analytics, and marketing Mature UX/UI Practice including tools, playbook and processes
USER-CENTRIC DESIGN Champion a user-centric design approach, using qualitative and quantitative insights to craft seamless, user-friendly experiences both hands on and by overseeing the work of other product designers Ensure ease of use and findability by successfully defining, optimizing and aligning site taxonomy to provide a logical, intuitive structure for users while also being adaptable to new content, audience segments, brand and third-party experiences over time Develop mockups and prototypes to gain early feedback from users to direct design Design functionality of digital products and experiences, test and iterate to optimize for a wide range of devices and interfaces Create user flows, sitemaps, and fully executed designs based on consumer needs Identify tests and measures of success for experience deliverables to demonstrate their value and promote continual improvement Collaborate successfully with internal teams and agency partners on strategic and tactical deliverables that advance the user experience Present designs and concepts to leadership, effectively communicating rationale and demonstrating impact
UI DESIGN EXECUTION Oversee the creation of high-fidelity designs, ensuring a visually appealing and brand-aligned interface across devices Optimize UI design systems for consistency and responsiveness, adhering to best practices and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) Work with developers to ensure pixel-perfect implementation of UI elements and designs, validating that interactions function as intended
Minimum qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field 8 years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong emphasis on web-based solutions 2+ years managing or leading design teams 3 years healthcare experience Strong portfolio showcasing user-centric approach, ability to design for different audiences, devices and channels as well as deliver compelling business results
Skills and Abilities Deep understanding of user experience across channels including online, mobile, telephonic, social, in-person and email Strong proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe) Deep understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) and best practices for responsive design. Expertly use, optimize and govern design systems Demonstrated success in applying user research and analytics to drive design decisions. Ability to translate complex interactions and processes into simple, intuitive experiences Proven success leading teams, providing clear direction, feedback, and development opportunities to elevate team capabilities and retain high-performing team members Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams. Expert communication and presentation skills Ability to operate effectively in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment Flexible to changing business and creative requirements
This position can be office based, Hub, or a Remote role. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have a primary home address located within any state where Medica is registered as an employer - AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, KY, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, OK, SD, TN, TX, VA, WI. The full salary range for this position is $111,200 - $190,600. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to compensation, Medica offers a generous total rewards package that includes competitive medical, dental, vision, PTO, Holidays, paid volunteer time off, 401K contributions, caregiver services and many other benefits to support our employees.
