DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE: To carry out the Music Director’s vision by overseeing administrative functions of her office.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Recommends a course of action, referral, or response; translates goals into action plans; confirms and supports executions of priorities.
  2. Build administrative systems for tracking events/defining score and stakeholders/follow-ups/deliverables for departments.
  3. Represents the Music Director in internal meetings as appropriate; serves as a liaison between various departments and the Music Director; monitors various channels of communication to ensure a dynamic flow of information to and from the Music Director.
  4. Partner with the Music Director and key stakeholders to develop and execute both new and ongoing programming that advances the Music Director and San Francisco Opera’s strategic vision. Oversee the planning and execution of related special events.
  5. Identify and engage with donors, working collaboratively with the Development department to support donor relations and advance strategic funding goals for music director projects. Develop and grow relationships with key community partners and organizations.
  6. Work with Marketing and Communications teams to develop and implement strategies that promote the Office of the Music Director projects and attract and engage audiences.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepares remarks for Music Director for events as directed.
  2. Serves as onsite liaison at special events involving artists, as directed.
  3. Identifies opportunities to provide additional support in alignment with the Music Director and organizational needs.
  4. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred) or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum five (5) years increasingly responsible general administrative work, opera production or artistic administrative experience highly preferred.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to read music with a base knowledge of music theory.
  2. Experience in the symphonic or operatic fields preferred.
  3. Basic knowledge of opera and symphonic repertoire and theatrical production and/or performing arts preferred.
  4. Position requires evening and weekend obligations, especially during the opera season, as well as a flexibility of hours as agreed between the Music Director and Associate.
  5. Excellent project management abilities, preferably with a background in curating auxiliary artistic events.
  6. Outstanding communication, both written and verbal, and organizational skills.
  7. Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with staff, artists, musicians, and patrons in a professional, confidential and tactful manner.
  8. Ability to effectively and accurately plan, organize, and coordinate people and events.
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; database skills desirable.
  10. Provide a high level of administrative support and organizational skills.
  11. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  12. Ability to prioritize diverse and multiple tasks, maintaining flexibility and attention to detail.
  13. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative.
  14. Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully and communicate priorities to Music Director.
  15. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  16. Familiarity and knowledge of foreign languages preferred, especially German, Italian, French and/or Russian.
  17. Social media savvy and familiarity with major platforms with a background in content creation preferred.
  18. Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner.

BENEFITS

Pay Range: $70,000 - $75,000 Annual.

This position is eligible for benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, PTO etc.
