ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Producer, Science & Technology is a showrunner and lead producer who leads audio production and project management on several projects at once. They can be reliably trusted to accomplish these tasks to a high standard, setting clear priorities, clearing roadblocks, maintaining relationships with colleagues and clients, and delivering excellent audio content. They should have a background in science, technology, or health reporting.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a senior producer, this person leads production of shows at Pushkin. To that end they may:

  • Create project calendars and budgets, and track both through a production’s lifecycle

  • Maintain production spreadsheets, which includes show summaries, episode descriptions, production schedules (airdates), and booking details

  • Lead the production team, including producers, associate producers, editors, sound designers, fact-checkers and engineers

  • Send weekly show digests

  • Working with clients to identify, develop, and meet their storytelling goals

  • Work with hosts, editors, clients, and executive producers to shape episodes and series

  • Research episode topics and guests, often consulting scientific and medical studies or journals, and conduct original reporting as needed

  • Develop interview preps and outlines, coordinate and produce interview recordings both in-person and virtually, or direct others in this work

  • As needed, coach hosts on interview technique and on-mic delivery

  • Work on all aspects of technical production including technical set-up of interviews, editing interviews, sourcing music and archival tape, assembling rough drafts, and rough-scoring episodes, ads, or promotional materials

  • Write scripts, or collaborate with client, host and/or editor on script writing

  • Address editorial and other notes from editors and clients

  • Create custom ads, whether narrative or simple scripts

  • Work with the marketing team to gather any materials needed for marketing/promotion

  • Act as the point person for any show-related requests or questions from Marketing, Operations, Development, Finance, or any Pushkin employee outside of their team

Baseline qualifications:

  • 7+ years of audio production experience, across a range of show styles

  • Experience independently leading multiple teams and shows

  • Consistent, persistent creativity from development, to launch, to series promotion

  • An academic and/or professional background in science or science reporting, including experience covering artificial intelligence

  • Comfortable communicating with leadership about deadlines, targets, budgets, and any problems that arise

  • Proficiency with ProTools and Descript

  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and communication skills

  • Superior writing skill for copy and script drafting

  • Experience with production scheduling, project management and episode planning

  • Demonstrated strengths in journalistic research/reporting, storytelling, audio editing & scoring

  • A positive and collaborative approach to work

  • At least 2 years experience leading production on one or more large-scale projects, including working directly with hosts and/or clients.
