Job Description: Qualcomm's in-house Game Studio is seeking an experienced and accomplished character artist who will work directly with our development team, design leads, and art director, to create, design, and produce high quality characters for Mobile and PC Game experiences and to be utilized for marketing purposes. The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of human anatomy, creature anatomy, and various other character types. Candidates for this role should have an expert level of creating 3D models, textures and materials for both mechanical and organic characters in various styles. We are looking for a CG Character Artist that can produce high poly Zbrush sculpts with low poly game ready LOD assets and tune material in game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine.


Minimum Qualifications
  1. 5+ years experience modeling/texturing characters in Zbrush, Maya, 3DS Max or Mari, for features, commercial, VR experiences and/or video games.
  2. Solid understanding of character modeling in Zbrush and UV/material application in Maya.
  3. Solid understanding of anatomy for realistic humanoid characters and creatures.
  4. Strong understanding of mechanical design and assemblies.
  5. Experience with Substance to create photo realistic textures and PBR materials.
  6. Comfortable working closely with team members in a highly iterative environment.
  7. Able to estimate task length, deliver polished assets on time, and work independently.
  8. Self-motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Demo materials to include sample character production files (model, Photoshop comp, textures, etc.) is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Passionate character artist with contemporary workflows and processes.
  2. Experience working in feature, commercial, or video games as a character artist.
  3. Experience editing scanned data and creating morph targets.
  4. Experience editing fur and hair for real-time game engines.
  5. Experience posing, rendering, and lighting photorealistic marketing materials from 3D character models.
  6. Understanding of VR and AR mobile limitations and requirements.
  7. Ability to create art content for modern game engines that is performant on mobile hardware.
  8. Experience with Unreal or Unity game engine.

Education Requirements

Preferred: A BFA or BA degree in art, design graphics, or have received equivalent on-the-job experience.
