Job Description
Esquire seeks a Deputy Editor to assign, edit, and write news and human-interest stories for all our platforms. The Deputy Editor will also edit our daily politics blog with Charles P. Pierce. The right candidate comes loaded with ideas as well as a stable of writers.
Responsibilities
Assign and edit pieces ranging from quick-turn stories newsy stories to longer reported pieces
Edit and post daily political blogs from contributing political writer, Charlie P. Pierce
Edit print column from contributing political writer, Charlie P. Pierce
Write short articles and reported pieces
Work closely with the design and photo team to execute larger packages
Seek, manage, and grow relationships with both established writers and up-and-coming voices to contribute
Qualifications 6+ years of media experience in the consumer lifestyle space
Experience working in a CMS, including building stories
Ability to work on deadline in a fast-paced environment
Deadline-driven, creative thinker, with a strong journalistic sensibility
Versatile, able to shift gears quickly and manage several projects simultaneously in a daily publishing environment
Familiar with analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Google Trends
Knowledge and familiarity with SEO best practices
The base salary for this role is between $83,000 - $100,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
