About this opportunity: (Seasonal)

Plans, implements, coordinates, and supervises an assigned group of children and youth; promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to campers; promotes and stimulates camper participation; coordinates and leads campers through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility; supervises campers during unscheduled program time and evenings; ensures compliance with camp rules and regulations at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.

  2. Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience. Supervises cabin clean up and work details.

  3. Lives with a group of campers and helps each camper adjust and get to know other campers and camp life. Interprets and maintains camper compliance with camp rules and health regulations.

  4. Assists with program activities and other activities as assigned working closely with the program staff.

  5. Be prepared with rainy day activities as needed.

  6. Inspects fire extinguishers and reports to Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed. Ensures all cleaning solutions are locked up except during use.

  7. Ensures adequate space between beds in cabins for freedom of movement and emergency exits.

  8. Stays in cabin with campers at night and ensures proper supervision.

  9. Keeps door to room open at night to maintain order.

  10. Maintains an incident report book on all campers and notifies Head Counselor of any serious situation immediately.

  11. May be asked to teach a class according to experiences or expertise.

  12. At the end of each camp session, cleans all mattresses, sinks, showers, and toilets.

  13. Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in a clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.

  14. Determines appropriate supplies and materials for activities; ensures the campers’ safety.

  15. Maintains camp materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for laundry, money, and supplies.

  16. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports.

  17. Assists in leading campers during various activities.

  18. Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities.

  19. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team.

  20. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.

  21. May assist in cleaning cabins, kitchen, tables, floors, etc.

  22. May assist in preparing and serving snacks and meals; ensures campers receive nutritional food.

Music Instructor Duties:

  1. Provides quality music instruction to campers.

  2. Teaches music theory appropriate for playing purposes and reviews assigned homework.

  3. Responsible for the care of instruments during class.

  4. Prepares students for recitals and concerts.

  5. Plans, schedules, assigns, and monitors students' work.

  6. Recommends and develops activities to enhance musical abilities.

  7. Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students.

  8. Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred; six months experience teaching music education preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Counselor/ Music Instructor position include endurance, climbing, standing, bending, and stretching. Requires normal hearing and eyesight to communicate and prepare camper activities. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and willingness to work irregular hours in a camp setting.
