Senior Technical Director, Design Manager

oversees the design and planning phases of the Columbia River Bridge project. This role ensures that all designs align with IBR program objectives, budgetary requirements, and Owner expectations. The Design Manager coordinates all design work on the CRB package including interfaces with other packages to ensure forward compatibility. This position may require being in the office at least 3 days per week (on average) in

project office. This position is contingent upon client approval, meaning that employment will be confirmed once our client has reviewed and approved the selected candidate. Your Impact

Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of engineering discipline’s project and program involvement within the organization. Oversee the design and planning phases of the Columbia River Bridge project. Ensure that all designs align with IBR program objectives, budgetary requirements, and Owner expectations. Coordinate all design work on the CRB package including interfaces with other packages to ensure forward compatibility. Coordinate with various disciplines, including project controls, public affairs, right of way, equity, climate, procurement, finance, third-party agreements, and environmental; and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Remain current in the latest engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline. Minimum of 15 years of experience managing design of large, multi-agency transportation projects including interstates and interchanges. SE or PE (Civil) License in OR and WA or ability to obtain both within 6 months. Experience leading design teams; coordinating with various disciplines, including project controls, public affairs, right of way, equity, climate, procurement, finance, third-party agreements, and environmental; and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of highway, transit, and major structures design practices for WSDOT, ODOT, and TriMet. Experience coordinating with engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure design integrity. Experience reviewing and approving design proposals, drawings, and specifications. Experience conducting design reviews and providing constructive feedback to team members. Experience managing project budgets and timelines related to design work. Experience in alternative delivery methods, primarily design-build. Experience working with departments of transportation, FHWA, and FTA to deliver interstate and multi-modal major structures. Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and design principles. Strong communications, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills to address design challenges and Owner needs effectively. Excellent project management and organizational skills. Ability to convey complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences. Strong time management and delegation skills. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications 20+ years of experience delivering large, complex transit and highway projects. Experience with structural engineering and design and construction of bridges over navigable waterways. Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $157,000 - $263,450 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
