Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Communications Manager, Internal

(Hybrid Remote)

The Communications Manager, Internal is responsible for developing and implementing VOA-GNY's internal communications and events strategy to foster employee engagement, promote alignment with our vision, and strengthen organizational culture and transparency.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in communications or related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, employee engagement or related role with event planning responsibilities.

Key Competencies:

Outstanding writing and editing skills and understanding of voice, nuance, and audience; experience communicating sensitive messages Experience in event planning The highest attention to detail. Highly motivated, proactive and adaptable with excellent problem-solving skills Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks against tight deadlines Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating across departments and functional groups Excellent ability to understand and simplify complex issues High level of proficiency using all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Knowledge of Spanish is an asset. All applicants must also submit at least 1 writing sample (i.e. blog post, article, press release) and 1 social media post (link or screenshot) that they produced; portfolios are encouraged.

Communications Manager, Internal Principal Responsibilities: Develop and implement an internal communications plan that aligns with organizational priorities and complements the external communications plan. Lead the creation and distribution of our regular employee newsletter, ensuring content is informative, engaging and reflects a diverse range of our work and employees. Draft and edit all-staff communications from Executive Leadership (including the President & CEO) in the appropriate tone of voice; craft sensitive messages with care and consideration. Plan, coordinate and manage logistics for regular town hall events and management meetings, including presentation materials. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute major staff events, including the annual staff picnic, Shared Values Awards and other employee engagement initiatives. Maintain a calendar of program events and distribute to relevant departments to identify potential opportunities for donor or elected official engagement or media coverage. Support employee recognition efforts by identifying exceptional staff from across the organization; interview and/or write stories as needed. Track and report communication metrics to assess the effectiveness of internal communications; use this data to inform changes. Provide communications support to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Ensure consistent messaging aligned with VOA-GNY's vision, values and brand identity across all internal communications. Perform other related duties as requested.
