Thousands of patrons are reached through outreach activities to schools, homebound patrons, Roxbury Book Nook, and community events.

What We're Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills is seeking a Library Clerk II to join the Community Services Department's Library Division. This role plays a key part in delivering exceptional customer service to library patrons by providing information on library programs and services in a professional, helpful manner. The Library Clerk II will be responsible for handling various tasks such as accepting returned materials, processing library card renewals both in-person and over the phone, and assisting patrons with updating their library records. This position also requires handling money, including collecting fees for overdue materials and managing cash reconciliation at the beginning and end of each shift. The ideal candidate will possess previous experience in a public library setting and demonstrate a strong ability to manage customer interactions, including resolving disputes related to library records or fees. Strong communication skills and the ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations are essential.

In addition to providing direct customer service, the Library Clerk II will assist in training and overseeing subordinate staff, ensuring the smooth operation of various library functions, such as checking in library materials, processing renewals, and overseeing fine collections. This role involves working closely with team members across multiple areas of responsibility, where versatility is key, as employees are cross-trained and expected to support one another as needed. A high level of customer interaction is required, which may include assisting with passport services, inventory management, and resolving patron concerns. Candidates should be comfortable with money-handling functions, including fee collection and balancing cash registers. The ideal candidate will also be expected to adhere to and understand the Library Standards of Behavior Policy. Work Schedule: This position will be assigned to work on-site and schedule may include daytime, evening and weekend work. Incumbent may be assigned to work one day a week at the Roxbury Community Center's Book Nook.

Disaster Service WorkersAll City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). •Assists patrons in using on-line subscription databases.
•Inspects and repairs audiovisual materials.
•Updates contents and links for the library website.
•Creates computer graphic materials for audiovisual items.
•Performs related duties as assigned.

CHILDREN'S SERVICES:
•Assists in enforcing library rules to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
•Assists patrons and answers routine questions.
•Supervises teenage volunteers.
•Participates in planning and presenting programs.
•Prepares monthly statistics.
•Updates contents and links for the library website.
•Performs related duties as assigned.

CIRCULATION SERVICES:
•Assists with training and overseeing the functions of subordinate staff in checking library materials; preparing materials for return; renewing materials; registering and updating membership; collecting fines and fees; accepting protests of fines; reporting of lost items and shelving library materials.
•Assists with training, directing and assisting subordinate staff in answering routine questions and directing patron complaints; inventorying the collection; searching for items; phoning patrons regarding fines and missing items; assisting patrons in requesting reserves and interlibrary loans.
•Independently carries out a specific function such as reserves, registration, overdue notices, inventory, debt collection or supply ordering.
•Reconciles and balances cash in the cash registers.
•Compiles lists of patrons.
•Assists in preparing monthly statistics.
•Processes renewals of library cards.
•Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPPORT SERVICES:
•Processes and repairs materials; prepares and processes bindery shipments; maintains equipment.
•Checks in periodicals and standing orders in various formats; claims missed issues.
•Performs simple maintenance of the library database; updates OCLC records; maintains repair
records.
•Inputs orders, invoices and cancellations receives and processes orders and gifts.
•Requests materials through interlibrary loan; performs on-line searches for materials; maintains loan records; collects fines and fees; processes requests for loans to other libraries.
•Updates contents and links for the library website.
•Performs related duties as assigned.

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES:
•Assists in enforcing library rules to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
•Monitors the building; secures the building at closing; assists at meetings and programs.
•Trains, directs and assists subordinate staff in answering and directing routine questions.

LITERACY SERVICES:
•Greets literacy visitors and answers routine questions by phone and in-person.
•Contacts tutors and students by phone and/or email.
•Assists with computer reading lab.

•Copies and collates class materials.

•Creates and compiles statistical reports.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma and one year of experience as a , or equivalent combination of education and experience.
