What We're Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills is seeking a Library Clerk II to join the Community Services Department’s Library Division. This role plays a key part in delivering exceptional customer service to library patrons by providing information on library programs and services in a professional, helpful manner. The Library Clerk II will be responsible for handling various tasks such as accepting returned materials, processing library card renewals both in-person and over the phone, and assisting patrons with updating their library records. This position also requires handling money, including collecting fees for overdue materials and managing cash reconciliation at the beginning and end of each shift. The ideal candidate will possess previous experience in a public library setting and demonstrate a strong ability to manage customer interactions, including resolving disputes related to library records or fees. Strong communication skills and the ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations are essential.

In addition to providing direct customer service, the Library Clerk II will assist in training and overseeing subordinate staff, ensuring the smooth operation of various library functions, such as checking in library materials, processing renewals, and overseeing fine collections. This role involves working closely with team members across multiple areas of responsibility, where versatility is key, as employees are cross-trained and expected to support one another as needed. A high level of customer interaction is required, which may include assisting with passport services, inventory management, and resolving patron concerns. Candidates should be comfortable with money-handling functions, including fee collection and balancing cash registers. The ideal candidate will also be expected to adhere to and understand the Library Standards of Behavior Policy. If you are passionate about public libraries, enjoy providing excellent customer service, and thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment, we encourage you to apply.

Conviction History:
As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Note: Falsifying one's education, training, or work experience or attempted deception on the application may result in disqualification for this and future job opportunities with the City of Beverly Hills.
